Litsea Cubeba (May Chang)

Alternatively known as May Chang, Litsea cubeba essential oil is extracted from the fruit of a tropical tree native to South East Asia. While its use is still being explored in modern aromatherapy, the tree featured strongly throughout Chinese medicinal history. Its scent is lemon verbena-like and although the tree is referred to as a pepper, it is not related and belongs to the same family as bay and cinnamon. This cleansing oil curbs excessive sweating and hastens the resolution of skin issues. Oily, mature and reddish skin responds well to its toning, regenerative qualities. Diffuse to refresh a tired mind.

Aroma: Top Note.

Perfume: A sweet, citrusy top note, with a predominant lemon scent with fruity and floral undertones and a vegetative note. It is both zesty and intense in character.

Blends well with: lavender, neroli, ylang ylang, rose, sandalwood, frankincense, geranium, vetivert, fennel and the resinous essential oils.

Indications: antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, astringent, carminative, cordial, deodorant, galactogogue, hypotensive, cardiac tonic, insecticidal, sedative/ stimulant, stomachic, vulnerary, tonic.
