Foeniculum vulgare
Sweet, herbaceous fennel has been at the forefront of herbal usage throughout many eras – ancient Egyptians, Romans, Indians, Greeks, Medieval Europeans and Chinese. Its liquorice-like scent is so familiar and Tinderbox uses the sweet vulgare variation, not the bitter, due to its more delicate aroma and ability to be used (albeit highly diluted) on the skin.
Aniseed and Star Anise pure essential oils are also available. Both liquorice-like in scent, the Aniseed scent is richer and sweeter than Fennel while Star Anise's scent is sharper.
Aroma: Middle Note.
Perfume: Sweet fennel oil has a sweet, pungent and herbaceous smell that is earthy and peppery- spicy, with a pronounced aniseed/liquorice note.
Blends well with: geranium, lavender, rose, sandalwood.
Indications: anti-septic, anti-viral, anti spasmodic, aperitif, carminative, depurative, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, galactogogue, laxative, stimulant, stomachic, splenic, tonic and vermifuge.
