The Herbal Extracts

Witch Hazel: Rich in tannins and flavonoids, witch hazel interacts with proteins in the skin and mucous membranes, causing them to contract and firm. 

Horse Chestnut: An astringent that temporarily draws water out of tissues, shrinking pores and tightening skin. 

Myrrh: Myrrh is a classic example of an effective astringent herb that contracts and cleans to seal off and protect the delicate mucous membranes of the body.

Yarrow: Yarrow has a long history for use in wound healing its ability to stop bleeding and encourage tissue repair. Its antiseptic properties help protect against infection.

Elderflowers: In skincare elderflowers possess antioxidant and astringent qualities and are also high in vital nutrients like vitamins, bioflavonoids and essential fatty acids. 

Calendula: Calendula is famed for its skin-soothing, anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. It speeds up tissue repair and reduces swelling.

The Essential Oils

Juniper: An effective astringent,  it can cause blood vessels to contract and reduce haemorrhage

Myrrh: Eases the pain of deep bone or soft tissue pain in delicate areas such as the rectal region, where other oils are too harsh. For example; coccyx pain or deep haemorrhoid discomfort; calming nerve response and reducing swelling.

Chamomile: Chamomile is calming and reduces redness, irritation and pain. It is also mildly antiseptic, making it great for soothing inflamed or tender areas.        

Cypress: Cypress was used to cure haemorrhoids by the ancient Assyrians. Cypress is both haemostatic and styptic, meaning it can stop flow of blood or promote clotting of blood. Styptic primarily means astringent, which apart from having other properties of an astringent, also helps stoppage of blood flow by contraction of blood vessels.

Manuka: Manuka oil is one of the most potent antimicrobial oils, and is particularly effective in preventing wound infections.

Cold-Pressed Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olive oil is a powerhouse for skin hydration, delivering deep moisture to keep the wound area soft, which helps prevent cracking and further irritation. Its antioxidant-rich properties also protect the skin from environmental factors that could impede healing.

Candelilla Wax

Candelilla wax a natural plant-based wax from the leaves of the candelilla shrub. It forms a protective barrier on the skin that locks in moisture and soothes irritations, promoting natural healing. It gives the balm its solid texture; allowing it to stay in place on the skin, shield the wound from dirt and bacteria while still letting the skin breathe.
