Five Minute Ritual: The Belly Rebalance

Five Minute Ritual: The Belly Rebalance

When the belly feels full, tight or unsettled, the most effective response is not force, but rhythm. Using Tinderbox Tummy Soothe, take five minutes to massage the abdomen in a way that mirrors the body’s own internal flow.

There is a direct conversation between the gut and the brain through the vagus nerve. When you slow down and give attention to the belly, the whole system receives the message to unwind.

The Technique
1. Warm the centre
Place both hands over the navel and begin with slow, broad clockwise circles. This follows the natural direction of the intestines and gently “maps” the terrain. Keep the pressure light to begin with, allowing the tissues to soften.
2. Trace the digestive pathway
Now become a little more deliberate. Using the flats of your fingers: Start at the lower right abdomen (just inside the hip bone). Move upward toward the ribs
across the upper abdomen from right to left. Then down the left side toward the lower abdomen. This is the path of the large intestine. Repeat this circuit slowly several times. Think of it as guiding rather than pushing.
3. Focus on areas of fullness
If you feel areas of hardness or distension, pause there. Apply gentle, sustained pressure and small circular movements. This helps disperse trapped gas and encourages movement through the bowel.
4. The release stroke
Finish each cycle with a soft sweeping motion down the left side of the abdomen. This supports the final stage of elimination and often brings a noticeable sense of relief.
5. Breathe with the movement
As you massage, breathe slowly into the belly. On each inhale, allow the abdomen to rise into your hands. On each exhale, soften and sink a little deeper. This engages the diaphragm, which acts as a natural pump for both digestion and lymphatic flow.

The essential oils do their work in tandem.

Ginger and black pepper kindle digestive fire, bringing warmth and movement.

Tangerine and aniseed relax tension and dispel that knotted feeling.

Peppermint and spearmint cool and soothe, offering immediate relief from discomfort.

Chamomile settles the nervous system and calms the gut allowing digestion to proceed without interference.

Warm, aromatic oils stimulate circulation and digestive activity. Slow breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing digestion to proceed properly. The essential oils in Tummy Soothe amplify the effect. Warming spices kindle movement, mints soothe and regulate and chamomile softens the entire experience so the body does not resist the process.

The Result: Often, within minutes, the belly begins to feel: Softer. Safer. Warmer. Less distended. Sometimes, audibly more active.

Five minutes. Two hands. A belly guided back into flow.
