Pogostemon cablin
Original hippies from the 1960s still have nostalgia around the scent of patchouli, such an influence this essential oil was during the Flower Power era. With its heavy, musky overtones, patchouli makes a fine fixative for perfumes. Deodorising and grounding, patchouli calms tension and stress. A dispersing oil, patchouli reduces muscle knots and is often used in lymph drainage massage. Regenerative in skincare, it is suited to oily and mature skin and eases skin irritations. Add to love potions to enhance sensuality. In Asian medicine it was used to stop the spread of disease and we can still use it today to protect our family. Patchouli is one of the few essential oils that improve with age.
