Basil essential oil reigned so supreme in ancient times it was dubbed the ‘royal oil’ and the word basilicum derives from the Greek word Basilicos meaning king or royal. Basil essential oil is cultivated throughout Europe and the USA, despite the plant originating from Asia and Africa.
Aroma: Top Note,
Perfume: Hot piercing scent, tangy, slightly spicy.
Blends well with: Bergamot, black pepper, clary-sage, geranium, lavender, neroli, sandalwood and verbena.
Indications (based on both empirical usage and scientific research of historical and modern times): analgesic, antidepressant, antispasmodic, anti-venomous, carminative, cephalic, diaphoretic, digestive, emmenagogue, expectorant, febrifuge, insecticide, nervine, stomachic, sudorific, tonic and stimulant.
